Cocktails Inspired by the World of Film Noir
Noir Bar is a cocktail book by the “Czar of Noir” Eddie Muller — host of TCM’s Noir Alley — that pairs libations with classic noir films and includes behind-the-scenes anecdotes and insights on film favorites. The book includes reproductions of vintage movie posters, as well as plenty of dames, dicks, stiffs, and stiff drinks. We wanted to capture the atmosphere of noir films through moody photography, vintage typography, and a limited color palette. The book is a square trim size when closed, which gives a cinematic widescreen proportion when opened.

Cocktail photos are dressed to the nines with referential props and settings—here, a full set of oyster fruit from the film’s jewel heist.
Staying true to the world of Noir, the book is drenched in black, with the posters, yellow captions, and the hooch providing the only color.
The design of the recipe names evokes vintage movie title cards, with customized pulpy typefaces and film grain. The ingredient lists subtly play off end credits via their justified layout and dotted rules.
Many recipes are given extravagantly designed titles, often based off either the movie’s poster or opening title sequence.
