The jacket’s understated photo of the ocean feels both somber and beautiful. The spine hints at the information graphics contained inside by showing how much our oceans have risen over the years, and how much more they may rise in the future.
The chapter openers depict the various problems our oceans face, but they imply hope for the future by having the color tones of the photos transition from a grim gray in the early chapters to an optimistic blue by the last chapter.
Prominent ocean activist heroes are highlighted throughout the book.
Eye-catching infographics were developed to accurately relay complex concepts and information.
We wanted to create a beautiful and hopeful book, but we didn’t want to gloss over or diffuse the gravity of the situation. Though not always pleasant to look at, images can resonate in a way that words can’t.
Important facts jump out at the reader as they flip through the book so they can quickly absorb information or find a point of interest to investigate. Marginal factoid graphics and pull quotes highlight critical data.
Each chapter ends with a call to action listing what you can do to help.
