presents The Cookbook
The kitchen at Litchfield Penitentiary, operated by a crew of misfit inmates, serves as a key setting in Orange Is the New Black. It’s where alliances are forged, power plays unfold, contraband changes hands, and drama takes center stage. This cookbook—yes, a prison-themed cookbook—brings the vibrant, diverse world of the show’s characters to life through food, featuring a variety of dishes that reflect the unique personalities and backgrounds of both the inmates and staff at Litchfield Penitentiary.

We were fortunate to have access to the actual prop trays, bowls, flatware, and cups used in the show, helping the photo styling to authentically capture the look and feel of Litchfield’s cafeteria.
Not all the dishes featured are tied to characters or scenes set within the prison. These recipes were photographed on a lightbox, creating a dreamy aesthetic that represents the kind of food the inmates fantasize about, in stark contrast to their dreary reality. This adds a welcome contrast to the cafeteria-styled shots.
