OUTTAKES:
We had a blast before creating various options before arriving at the final selected cover. Below are a handful of our favorites.
The original brief called for a cover that was fun, quirky, humorous, and gifty. Everyone knows that Meryl is the queen of Oscar wins-and-noms and embodies Hollywood royalty, so we initially developed a tongue-in-cheek baroque design with a die-cut window. This design was first approved as the cover, but the publisher later felt it leaned too heavily into the humor. We then created additional options that aimed to strike a better balance between playfulness and reverence — some of which are shown below — before the final cover was chosen.
